On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Empire of Japan conducted a massive unprovoked military strike on the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Aboard those battleships that day flew this 48-star Flag, a legendary design used for 47 years from Arizona's admission into the United States back in 1912, all the way to Alaska's admission in 1959.
